I have a client who has commissioned me to scan for him an archive collection b & w negatives of various mediums, and burn to a disc for his use.

The job entails scanning, which is a non destructive copying, process then restoring the images for future use befor burning them to a cd/dvd.

My client has readily agreed to  let me share 3 of these images with you, they are Dave McKay meeting his new fans, George Best taking him on during a 1969 game at the baseball ground, and Brian Clough and Roy McFarland on the latters signing day.

Let me explain.

Normally she wants nothing to do with trains but when it comes to sunny days and the S & C is near it takes no persuasion at all to suggest a  drive,  so was the case on our last day on holiday at the end of February 2012.

We had endured some truly foul weather for a couple of days previous and needed to get out.

So my wife armed herself with the road atlas and promptly navigated me down to our first port of call Appleby. Again my luck was holding out as the sun was coming out and I caught an unidentified virgin 57 working south on a route learning trip.

The weather held, in fact got stunningly better all day the drive over the tops from Dandry Mire at Garsdale Head to  Dent station on through to Dent village and Dent Head was truly spectacular, the sort of late winter, early spring light we experience once in a blue moon.

By the time we got to Ribblehead the sun was setting, one of the best days I and we have had on the S & C.I have uploaded six images from the day , click here to view them. picture above is of Arten Gill, viaduct.

Carlisle is also the terminus for the world famous Settle to Carlisle railway, one of the great railway journeys of the world. Northern rail operate 153’s & 156’s& 158’s on this route

The traffic is now dominated by Canadian built class 66’s of various different UK rail freight operators, their liveries making an interesting contrast through out the evening.

Most of this traffic stopped along with a new American built GE, 70013 for crew changes, some of the freights hauled by class, 90,92, and the elderly statesmen pairs of class 86’s did not stop, apparently changing crews at Carlisle yard.

The passenger traffic is dominated by Virgins sleek and futuristic Pendolino’s and their smaller cousins the Voyagers.

Scotrail also serve the station with 156’s working the Glasgow- Newcastle- Edinborough circuit.

Carlisle is also a hub for Northern rails operations in the county with 156’s shuffling up and down the Cumbrian coast to Barrow-in-Furnace and Carnforth.

They also operate 156 on the Hadrian’s Wall route over to Newcastle

Scarfel Pike England’s highest mountain ((3,209 ft). lies at the head of the dale.

Its natural beauty is spell binding and is one of my favorite places.
